Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost to attend Virginia College?

The exact cost depends on the program you choose. And the cost of the use of textbooks is included in the fees at most campuses as well. Remember that when comparing costs. You can apply your military benefits and also receive the Virginia College military tuition allowance... 20% for active duty personnel and 10% for veterans, reserves and family members of those currently serving on active duty. We also have other financial aid available for those who qualify. Note that your application fee is also waived. Check with an Admissions Associate or financial aid person for details and eligibility restrictions.

Who is eligible to receive the Virginia College military tuition allowance?

This plan is available for active-duty members serving in any of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, retired military, guardsmen or reservist military personnel…anyone who qualifies for veterans’ educational benefits. Eligible participants must possess a current and valid military ID card and have met all other Virginia College admissions requirements. Family members of active-duty military personnel may also take advantage of the Virginia College military allowance.

Is Virginia College accredited?

Yes, by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, which is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Will I be able to use my military Tuition Assistance (TA) for classes taken at Virginia College? How about Virginia College Online?

Yes to both. Service members may use their full annual entitlements at both on-ground and the on-line school—or a combination of both. Check with your duty station educational officer to learn more or verify eligibility.

Will I be able to use my GI Bill benefits at Virginia College while I am still on active duty?

In most cases, yes you can. Visit the Department of Veteran Affairs web site or talk with your base education officer for details on the “Top Up” program.

Does Virginia College accept credits from other schools or colleges? How about military training credits?

Virginia College may grant academic credit to students who have successfully completed the same or substantially the same course work as that required in the curriculum. The acceptance of such transfer credit is at the discretion of the campuses so be sure to discuss this with your Admissions Associate. This also applies to approved coursework from military training. Your military training, occupations and experience are evaluated by ACE (American Council on Education), which recommends awards based on semester hours. Since Virginia College programs use a quarter-hour system, we make the conversion of your credits for you. You may be closer to your degree than you think!

What do I do if I am deployed, or if my duty station changes and I can no longer attend classes at one of the Virginia College on-ground campuses?

You may withdraw from classes with no penalty provided you show your campus administrator proof of the deployment or orders to a new base. You do have the option of continuing classes via the Internet at Virginia College Online if they are available. And be assured that so long as you have proof that your change was based on relocation orders, you may re-enter Virginia College at a later date at the same tuition rate as when you had to withdraw.
